Laura di Fabio, Storie di gesuiti nell'Italia occupata (1943–1945). Con estratti dai diari di residenza della Compagnia di Gesù

The history of the Society of Jesus during the German military occupation of central and northern Italy (1943–1945) reveals important aspects of the country's political, social and cultural life. Indeed, the Society's residences and colleges carried out educational, pastoral and charitable activities throughout the region, enabling them to establish a unique relationship with local communities and to serve as a privileged vantage point for observing that decisive period. With the opening of ecclesiastical archives and the availability of documents produced during the pontificate of Pius XII, it has been possible to focus this publication on the house diaries, which have never been previously examined. These daily chronicles, written by Jesuits, detail events occurring both within and outside their religious communities, covering military and resistance activities, power dynamics, and the spiritual and material initiatives through which the Jesuit Order protected the population. This results in a perspective that is not only valuable, but also wholly new.
